How to Choose the Appropriate Reagent Addition Location and Sequence in Flotation
I. Principles for Reagent Addition Location Selection
The reagent addition location must be determined based on the ore properties, reagent properties, and flotation process requirements to ensure optimal flotation performance.
pH Adjuster: Generally added to the ball mill. On one hand, it adjusts the pulp to a suitable pH, ensuring the proper functioning of subsequent depressants and collectors; on the other hand, it eliminates interference from harmful soluble ions in the pulp on flotation.
Depressant: Added before the collector, usually inside the ball mill, allowing the depressant to react fully with the target minerals that have developed a fresh surface during grinding, achieving selective inhibition.
Activator: Added to the stirred tank and thoroughly stirred with the pulp to ensure a complete reaction between the reagent and the activated mineral.
Collector and Frothing Agent: Conventionally added to the stirred tank or secondary flotation machine; sparingly soluble collectors are added to the ball mill to facilitate reagent dispersion and prolong the reaction time between the reagent and the mineral.

Floating of Raw Ore: pH Adjuster → Depressant → Collector → Frothing Agent
Floating of Depressed Minerals: Activator → Collector → Frothing Agent
